Thermal Treatments
BALNEOTHERAPY
It consists in the immersion, complete or partial, of the body in an individual pool or in a "collective" pool containing thermal mineral water at an appropriate temperature according to clinical guidelines. General guidelines for balneotherapy include water temperature (34° - 38° C) and the duration of the treatment (15 -20 minutes) according to the instructions of the doctor. The bath, usually in the morning, must be performed on an empty stomach and treatment is usually 12 visits, one per day, and can be repeated several times a year according to clinical indications and the general setting of the therapy. After bathing, the treatment involves lying for a period of 20-30 minutes to provoke a reaction involving a complex of neuro-vascular adaptations induced by immersion in thermal water. Balneotherapy can be used for active or passive rehabilitation and/or physiotherapeutic practices when carried out by specialists. Balneotherapy can be used:
- in arthro-rheumatic diseases like osteoarthritis, low back pain, periarthritis and tendonitis. The results of limb injuries such as fractures, dislocations, sprains and muscle distractions can be treated successfully. Postoperative healing is also favored and the complications due to traffic accidents, work and sport are relieved;
- in dermatological conditions such as psoriasis, acne, eczema, dermatitis and dermatosis of various origins. Hot water, rich in salts, has an anti-inflammatory effect and promotes healing;
- in vascular diseases such as peripheral vascular functional disorders, chronic venous insufficiency (varices), chronic phlebopathies. In addition to the classic cycle of baths, for some pathologies the Kneipp treatment is recommended, i.e. the alternation of hot and cold water with vascular gymnastics; also useful during pregnancy, following medical advice.
INHALATORY THERAPY AND CARE OF THE RHINOGENESS
Even the ancient Romans benefitted from thermal inhalation therapies, close to Lake Garda in fact, and still today the crenotherapy is used with great success in the treatment of numerous respiratory diseases and especially the primary airways, both for chronic diseases and allergies, without the use of medicines. The curative properties of the thermal waters (salt-bromo-iodine) are used in inhalation treatments which use specific apparatus to vaporize and nebulize the water, allowing it to reach various points along the respiratory tract. The inhalation treatments are divided into wet and dry and are varied depending on the pathology. Crenotherapy is used for its anti-karstic, anti-inflammatory, fluidizing, antiseptic and cleansing properties and reactivates the physiological defense and drainage mechanisms of the respiratory mucosa. The multiple-action guarantee, over time, a revival of the functions of the mucosa that have been altered by disease. There are different methods of delivery depending on the following classification:
- The technical characteristics of the appliances
- The physical characteristics of the inhaled substances (size of the inhaled particles of water, presence of gas, temperature, pressure, etc.)
- The chemical characteristics of the mineral waters used (mineral salts and trace elements).
The treatment of rhinogenous deafness is a specific therapy for catarrhal otitis in children, adults and the elderly. The endotympanic insufflation, performed by medical personnel, consists of introducing thermal water in gaseous form, by means of a catheter placed directly into the Eustachian Tube. Politzer Crenoterapico is an effective treatment of catarrhal otitis in children and consists of passing thermal gas into the auditory tube indirectly by means of an occluding a nostril. These treatments provide benefits to the mucous membranes of the middle ear, reducing inflammation and chronic infectious processes, and also prevent flare-ups in the upper airway.
HYDROTHERAPY
Hydrotherapy involves drinking mineral water to benefit from its therapeutic properties. Useful in the treatment of certain disorders, the salt-bromine-iodine thermal waters of Aquardens have the following beneficial effects: increased diuresis, facilitation of gastric secretion, protective action in liver cells, balancing cholesterol levels. The water from our spring is recommended for the treatment of pathologies of the digestive system, the liver and the metabolism. It is advisable to slowly drink 2 glasses (about 200 ml) of water, preferably in the morning and on an empty stomach.
